Have you seen some kids that look normal but flail hands and act a little different? Most of the time, they look physically normal but act a little different than kids their age and uncontrolled repetitive movements are one of the first signs of autism.
So what do you really understand by the term Autism? It is a condition that may have been mentioned, but explaining it is important. It is more than just a word. It is a psychiatric developmental condition in children, but it is not a mental disorder.
Autism is found in children is increasing. Less than 50 years ago learning that one in 110 children had Autism was considered impossible while today it is known to be fact through studies. This condition provide social problems, communication trouble and extremely short attention spans for the child. When a child has Autism they stand out from other children because they do not interact as other children do. They are considered to be in their own world, some cannot talk normally or mumble, uncontrolled movements and some degrees of mental retardation. But a surprising fact remains that some of the autistic children show an inborn talent for art and music even if they cannot communicate normally.
There are various degrees of Autism. There are severe degrees including Autism Spectrum. Then lesser Autism degrees are: Rett Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), PDD that is not otherwise specified (PDD NOS), Asperger's Syndrome and Childhood Dis-integrative Disorder.
For better information, understanding Autism means learning more about the condition's degrees such as:
Rett Syndrome
This is a physical form of Autism. Muscle tone is one of the indications that the child has this condition. These children start developing normally until this comes to an end then starts to lose certain abilities.
PDD Autism
The child that has this form of Autism has elements of all different types of Autism. It varies by the individual. This is where most children are when they are diagnosed.
Asperger Syndrome
When dealing with this disorder children have social and behavioral symptoms. They might have trouble interacting with others and have strong feelings of sticking to their routine. They are often extremely intelligent.
Childhood Disintegrative Disorder
This Autism condition is another option that has the child beginning to develop on track. Then in a few years they start to disintegrate or lose abilities.
Often when a child has mild Autism or a more physical element of this condition they might not be diagnosed until they are adults. When treating a child with Autism they have the best chance the earlier they are diagnosed. This will allow for intensive intervention to find what treatments will be best for the individual. It can be challenging to find the right treatment. One option that is showing to help is teaching the child certain skills, such as speech therapy and physical therapy. Sometimes a variety of treatments are tried before anything is shown to help and there are times when treatments might not help.
